CalFresh Healthy Living, University of California

CalFresh Healthy Living, University of California operates through a joint agreement among the U.S. Department of Agriculture/Food and Nutrition Service (USDA/FNS), the California Department of Social Services CalFresh Program, and the University of California Cooperative Extension. UC CalFresh consists of Adult, Family-Centered and Youth program components, and operates throughout various California counties.
    
The Adult and Family-Centered nutrition education programs enroll CalFresh recipients, applicants, and eligibles on a voluntary basis at the local county welfare department and other sites. The Youth nutrition education program targets schools and community programs with large numbers of children from CalFresh households. Teachers, youth program leaders, and other extenders at the sites are trained to deliver a nutrition education program targeted to youth audiences.

The general goal of CalFresh Healthy Living, University of California is to improve the diet and nutrition-related skills of CalFresh recipients and their families.

UC Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a federally-funded program through the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) that offers nutrition education to limited-resource families and children in all 50 states and U.S. territories.

In California, EFNEP is administered by the University of California Cooperative Extension in 24 of California's 58 counties. EFNEP assists limited-resource clients gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and changed behavior necessary to choose nutritionally sound diets and improve well-being.
